When Motorola released their Droid Bionic exclusively to Verizon’s 4G LTE wireless broadband network, many users did not know that Motorola had designed the handset to act as four separate personal electronics devices in one. Earlier this year Motorola released the Atrix 4G Android smartphone which, when used in conjunction with specific accessories, allowed Atrix 4G owners access to an entry-level laptop with 11.6 inch screen, and hands-free GPS and voice enabled Google search system, and a high definition multimedia center.
Adding versatility to yet one more of their Android smartphones, Motorola designed their new Bionic 4G Verizon smartphone to access all of the same optional accessories they made for the Atrix 4G.
Motorola calls their laptop option the Lapdock, their multimedia dock they dubbed the HD Station, and their hands-free automobile GPS system the Vehicle Dock. The Lapdock looks familiar to laptop owners, and delivers the above-mentioned 11.6 inch display in a typical clamshell form, with the Droid Bionic 4G handset simply snapping into a docking position on the back of the device. Weighing in at only 2.4 pounds, this optional accessory weighs about half as much as a comparably sized laptop or notebook.
